Roger enrolled in several Washburn University writing classes as a senior citizen auditor. In those classes, his desire was piqued by the influence and encouragement of Dr. Andrew Farkas. In one of his Advanced Fiction Writing classes, a workshop, Roger submitted what would later be one chapter of his novel. It was well-received by his fellow students, auditors, and Andy. Now, feeling like a writer, and knowing that "every author needs to write a novel," he began.
The result is Rusty's Repair.
The storyline: Rusty Jordan was born in poverty at the beginning of the twentieth century on a small farmstead in southeast Iowa. Soon, abandoned by his father and the death of his mother, young Rusty was left alone with the task of raising a baby sister, Janie. Once it was learned that Rusty and Janie were living alone on the farm, Janie was taken from him. Rusty was then left to search for both Janie and a place he could call home. His journey is one of hardship and perseverance.
